Next up on THIS IS MY HAUS, we’re beyond excited to introduce the incredible Emily Malice! Emily is an artist whose work brilliantly explores the delicate fragility of life, drawing inspiration from the intricate dance between pleasure and pain. Often imitated but never replicated, her art is a form of empowerment—adornments that help people feel strong and confident in their own skin. Today, we’ll take a peek inside her world and discover the space where she finds solace when she’s not channeling her boundless creativity.
What’s the most unique or unusual item in your home?
That’s a tough one! My home is like a cabinet of curiosities, filled with treasures that each tell their own story. But if I had to pick, it would be a stunning wooden cross, hand-painted with an image of Jesus looking rather snatched, overlooking a base of burning children. I assume they’re sinners—though they do look quite guilty.
Is there a particular style or era of decor that you’re drawn to?
I’m drawn to both Renaissance and Victorian aesthetics. The Renaissance captivates me with its marble, gold filigree, and elegance, while the Victorian era pulls me in with its dark, ornate wood carvings and the macabre beauty of memento mori.
Do you prefer a minimalist or maximalist style of home decor?
Definitely maximalist—more is more! I’m an absolute hoarder, but as an artist, I see it as part of my nature to collect precious trinkets. That said, I’m learning the art of organisation; a tidy house equals a tidy mind, after all.
What’s the most rock ‘n’ roll thing about your home?
Probably my collection of knives, hair, teeth, and antique illicit substance paraphernalia.
If you had to pick one room in your house to spend the rest of your life in, which one would it be and why?
The bedroom, without a doubt—especially if my boyfriend could join me so we could binge-watch Batman together.
Do you have any collections or hobbies that you showcase in your home?
I do! As I mentioned, I collect knives—a passion my dad and I share. I’m also an avid collector of precious stones. I have some stunning tourmaline and opalized fossils, which is something my mum and I bonded over. We used to comb beaches together in search of fossils.
What’s your favourite swear word?
Fuck.
What’s the weirdest thing in your home that you absolutely love?
The toilet.
Do you have any family heirlooms or vintage pieces that hold a special place in your home?
Yes! My brother once gifted me an amazing Clockwork Orange poster for my birthday. It’s an illustration of one of the Korova Milkbar girls, and I absolutely love it! Growing up, we were both into arthouse and banned films—vintage, of course.
What’s your favourite room in your house and why?
The bedroom, hands down. It’s my sanctuary of relaxation. I used to struggle with sleep, but I’ve finally mastered the art of it, and now it’s where I feel most at peace.
