Jon Mahon

Jon Mahon

Jon Mahon is a dynamic and influential voice on Kerrang! Radio, known for his passion for rock music and engaging personality. With a deep love for everything from classic anthems to the latest hits, Jon brings an infectious energy to the airwaves. Whether he's spinning tracks, sharing stories from his adventures in the music world, or interacting with listeners, Jon's genuine enthusiasm for the genre is evident in every show. Off the mic, he’s a dedicated music aficionado, collector of wrestling memorabilia, and a creative spirit who spends most of his time in his home studio, where he continues to fuel his love for all things rock.

What’s the weirdest thing in your home that you absolutely love?

My house is like a Pandora’s box of oddities. The weirdest things in my studio are probably: two briefcases, a framed printout of the Welsh national anthem, and an unopened bag of Papa Roach branded coffee beans - which I haven’t touched because I don’t own a coffee grinder.

If your home could speak, what do you think it would say about you?

“Why do you stomp around like a goddamn baby elephant everywhere you go?!”

What’s your favourite room in your house and why?

My studio, hands down. It was my dad’s old office, and after he passed, I transformed it into my creative space. It’s where I spend 95% of my time when I’m home.

Do you have any quirky or unique decor in your home that would shock your fans?

Nothing too shocking for anyone who knows what I’m into. I’ve got loads of wrestling memorabilia and gig tickets pinned up on various boards. The quirkiest item is probably a Bray Wyatt replica Fiend mask sitting next to my vinyl player.

Do you have any must-have items that travel with you everywhere?

My laptop is a constant companion - 9 times out of 10, it’s with me whenever I leave the house. Everything I do seems to require a laptop, and without it, I feel like a turtle without its shell.

If your home could be a soundtrack, what would be the top 3 songs on it?

  • "Kitchen Sink" by Twenty One Pilots
  • "Jesus of Suburbia" by Green Day
  • "I’d Do Anything for Love" by Meat Loaf

What’s your favourite piece of art/memorabilia that you have at home?

In my studio, there’s a pinboard filled with little life moments—gig tickets, mementos from trips abroad, festival wristbands, and family photos. It’s a reminder of why I do what I do and to keep pushing forward.

Do you have any favourite spots in your home where you like to relax and unwind?

Cooking is my go-to for relaxation. It’s something that lets me switch off for a bit. I usually throw on a podcast and take my time with whatever I’m making. There’s a little kitchenette next to my studio, so I can easily move between cooking and working in the studio.

What’s a typical day like for you when you’re at home and not working festivals or DJing?

My day kicks off with a non-negotiable iced coffee protein shake (mint chocolate chip flavour, of course). Then it’s on to emails and some admin before my Kerrang show starts at 10 am. Once that wraps up at 1 pm, I either hit the gym or dive straight into work if it’s a busy day. I try to wrap up by 8 pm, as work can get pretty consuming. After that, it’s some food and then aiming to be in bed by 10 or 11 pm.

What’s the most rock ‘n’ roll thing about your home?

Honestly, my house isn’t all that rock ‘n’ roll. Aside from the memorabilia in my studio, it’s pretty standard. I suppose the most rock ‘n’ roll aspect is that, for three hours a day, Monday through Friday, I jump on the UK’s most famous rock station, play some bangers, and chat some shit. 🤟
